Today we had a party to celebrate our brilliant performance of the Wizard of Oz and to help us to say goodbye to the Year 6s. We listened to music, ate some party food and played about 2 hours of rounders outside - what a fun day! Goodbye to all of Year 6 and best wishes for the future. We will miss you very much!

Today we had a visit from the Dwayne Pipe performance group from Northumbria water who gave an interesting assembly, which helped us to learn about what we should and shouldn't put down drain pipes. It was hilarious and we had great fun. Even though it was very nerve-wracking we managed to pull off an amazing leavers' assembly of the Wizard of Oz. Everyone enjoyed it and tried their best to give a spectacular performance. Most of the parents, carers and members of staff who watched it said it was the best assembly they had ever seen! Thank you to Mrs Garrod for our brilliant face painting and thank you to everyone who came to watch our performance. Well done again to all of our class for a great show! For the past half term we have spent a lot of time practising for our Y6 leavers assembly, which is our own special version of the Wizard of Oz. We have all enjoyed learning our parts, creating actions, singing songs and doing dances and we can't wait for our final performance in front of the whole school plus parents and carers. Here are some photos from our final dress rehearsal.
We are very pleased to announce that our school has achieved the Sainsbury's School Games Bronze mark for 2013/2014. We met all of the criteria for the bronze award, which included having a school games day to celebrate the year's sporting activity, participating in level 1 and level 2 sporting competitions, involving students in leading sporting activity and having children regularly attending after school clubs. Well done to everyone who has attended an after school club, taken part in a sports competition or has been a referee/ organiser as you have all helped us to achieve this award! Next year we are going to aim for the silver award so we will be setting up a school games organising committee, developing links with local sports clubs, ensuring each class has 2 hours of PE per week and attending even more festivals and competitions. You can find out more about the sports marks on the Sainsbury's School Games website at http://yourschoolgames.com/your_school/sainsburys-school-games-mark . Joanne from 4Real paid us a visit to announce the winners of the alcohol poster competition, which was judged by members of the alcohol project team, including police officers and members of the local community. Well done to Kirsty who was the overall winner and Luke who was the runner up. Their posters will be displayed around the local area to highlight some of the dangers of alcohol for young people. This is Kirsty's fantastic winning poster and she was delighted with her prizes, which included a £20 Argos voucher and art supplies. Congratulations Kirsty! Here are Kirsty and Luke's prizes and Luke's second place poster is below.
Each Monday for 10 weeks, the children from Year 5 have visited Parkside to take part in cooking lessons with Mrs Trickett. They cooked a range of delicious food including flapjack, muffins, curry and apple crumble and took it home to taste with their families. It smelled lovely when they returned to school every week and made the Year 6s very jealous! We are extremely proud to announce that every child in our class achieved at least a 4B (the Y6 target) in the Y6 maths, reading and grammar, punctuation and spelling SATs this year. Our reading scores were the best we've ever had, with 67% level 5 and our results for grammar, punctuation and spelling were even better with 78% level 5. We even had 3 children score level 6 in maths and one child scored a level 6 in the grammar test! Congratulations to all of Year 6 - you should be very proud of yourselves!
After an extremely busy Enterprise Week, we are delighted to announce that our class have raised a spectacular total of £157.63 profit! We put in a lot of hard work to prepare our stalls and we are delighted that our products were so popular. The lucky bags, jelly, ice lollies, lolly pops and drinks all sold out and the photos were very popular. Look out for our last few loom band bracelets and tubs of popcorn, which are on sale at Monday morning playtime! While I was in the deep forest all of a sudden I was scared, I heard a massive shout and it was my cousin. He screamed, “HELP!” I decided to try and find him. While I was in the deep, dark forest, I heard a noise, which was another one of my cousins and I decided to chase him. Then all of a sudden while I was running through the dark forest, I felt like the trees were dragging me into themselves. The forest seemed alive as a wolf who was chasing me. Anxiously, I was trying to get to him, then I finally arrived.
One fine morning, when I went to pick some berries in the fabulous forest, I heard the noise of a caveman. I happily skipped deeper into the forest. I suddenly noticed that there was a trail of gumdrops, leading to a house made entirely out of candy. The forest seemed alive as if it had been mutated by delicious sweets. Suddenly, I heard a step and it walked up to me it turned out to be a gingerbread man. He sounded like a dying cat, I didn`t know what to do with it. It was about the size of a basketball player. I feel very hungry.
Anxiously, I descended into the darkness. The forest seemed alive as my eyes started to adapt to the midnight hour. As I crept further and further into the haunting forest, I heard a screeching sound that I was always terrified of: the petrified scream of my little sister!
“Hold on, I’m coming!” I shouted around the forest. “It’s too late!” she shouted back. Suddenly, I realised that I had been here before - perhaps in a dream or in a vision. Then I woke up, realising that what had happened was just a dream...or was it? I checked on my sister …she was gone! |
