Joanne was back in class today to tell us more about energy drinks and the dangers of alcohol. We learnt that alcohol can affect the whole body and completed a quiz.
Our class is organising a coffee morning/ small fair on Friday 19th June to raise money for Water Aid. This is because we are doing a Make a Difference Challenge and we want to help people who don’t have access to clean water or toilets.
Any parents, carers, grandparents, aunties, uncles etc. of children in any class are welcome to attend. We have a special guest coming on the day at around 10am – the local MP (Pat Glass) and we are also inviting other important members of the community. On the day, we will be selling snacks and refreshments, holding a raffle and tombola, doing face and nail painting plus some other stalls. Class 4 will also be giving a presentation and performing songs and a short play at around 10am when Pat Glass arrives. You are welcome to attend from 9:15am in the hall until it finishes at around 10:45am. Please send in any donations of toys, books, raffle prizes and any other items that we might be able to sell or use as a tombola prize. All funds raised will be donated to Water Aid. Here is their website for more details http://www.wateraid.org/uk/ If you have any further questions, please contact Miss Potts or any member of Class 4 for more information. We would love to have some parent volunteers to help out on the day. Thank you! Do you like our Fairtrade display? We have been learning about why Fairtrade is important and written reports about it. To support Children in Need, Y6 baked cakes and sold them at playtime and we made a 50p donation to dress up in yellow or spotty outfits to represent Pudsey. We will let you know how much money we raised once it has all been counted. Today the whole school has taken part in a sponsored walk - Walk with Wellies. We all enjoyed the walk and have raised lots of money for our partner school in Kenya. Here are some of our fantastic acrostic poems about Childline and an example of a completed crossword. What do you think of our poems? We have completed some more Childline workshops about different types of abuse and how children can deal with abuse. Everyone worked very well in small groups to discuss issues and identify ways to solve problems. Today Y6 went to the Durham and Darlington Primary Safety Carousel. We took part in a range of interesting workshops, which were all about keeping safe, including fire safety, dangers of electricity, cyber bullying, road safety, water safety and the dangers of gas. It was a really fun and interesting day and we have made an animation with our photos. Joanne from 4Real paid us a visit to announce the winners of the alcohol poster competition, which was judged by members of the alcohol project team, including police officers and members of the local community. Well done to Kirsty who was the overall winner and Luke who was the runner up. Their posters will be displayed around the local area to highlight some of the dangers of alcohol for young people. This is Kirsty's fantastic winning poster and she was delighted with her prizes, which included a £20 Argos voucher and art supplies. Congratulations Kirsty! Here are Kirsty and Luke's prizes and Luke's second place poster is below.
On Monday and Tuesday we had a fantastic time as part of the 'Just for a laugh' drama project which is part of the alcohol awareness project. We had two brilliant visitors called Les and Kerry (from Tardis resources) who worked with us all day. We started by doing some warm up activities, role play and freeze frames and then we planned and recorded our film to warn people about the dangers of alcohol. We look forward to watching the film once it has been edited.
We have received a letter of congratulations and our cheque from Go-Givers for winning the scrapbook competition. How exciting! Here are some of the posters that we have created as part of the alcohol awareness project with 4Real. We will let everyone know who is chosen as the winners as soon as we find out. |
