In today's tennis lesson, we spent time practising skills to help us to improve as tennis players. We worked on our hand/ eye coordination and returning the ball when it was thrown to us and then moved onto playing some mini games. Everyone tried very hard and we can already see good progress.
Do you like our Fairtrade display? We have been learning about why Fairtrade is important and written reports about it. This term our Geography topic is Brazil. To begin with, we are looking at the physical features of Brazil and identifying key facts. In our first lesson, we worked in small groups to produce a map from memory, where we took turns to look at a map of Brazil that Miss Potts kept hidden. Then we had to add as much detail to our blank maps as possible. Do you know any interesting facts about Brazil? We have now started our striking and fielding unit of work, which includes rounders and cricket. There is also an after school club on Thursdays for our class and year 3/4. This will all help us to prepare for our cricket competitions in June. In our second PE lesson, we are developing our tennis skills. We will keep you updated with our progress.
A newsletter was sent out to parents in the last week before Easter, but in case you missed it due to all of the Easter and Robinwood excitement, here are some updates for the new term PE After Easter, we will no longer be swimming on a Thursday. Our PE days will be Monday and Tuesday and we will be doing tennis and cricket outside (weather permitting) so please ensure your child has suitable trainers and warmer clothes for PE outdoors. **Note change to Monday and Tuesday rather than Wednesday.** There will also be a tennis club for KS2 children on Monday afternoons. It will start straight after school and finish at 4:15pm. If you would like your child to attend, please see Miss Potts for a form. SATS Year 6 SATs take place the week of Monday 11th May – Thursday 14th May. Please ensure that your child does not have any holidays this week or the week’s before this date and try to avoid any unnecessary absences as we will be doing lots of important revision. Over the next few months, please encourage your child to complete activities in their revision books, read, practise spellings and use educational websites (e.g. BBC Bitesize) so they have the best chance of doing well in their tests. SAT Boosters will continue on Wednesdays after Easter. Student teachers After Easter, we will have two students working in our class – Miss Taylorson and Miss Jones – from Sunderland University. They will be with us for 6 weeks and mainly be teaching year 5 while Miss Potts teaches year 6. This smaller group work will ensure that everyone in our class is given a lot of support to improve their work in reading, writing and maths. If you have any further questions, please get in touch through the school office or by sending a comment on the contact form below. |
