Can you suggest any enjoyable books we could share together? What is your favourite book to read?
In order to improve our reading even further, we have begun paired reading every week. Children in Class 4 and Class 1 have been paired up and have been enjoying sharing books together. So far, it has been a brilliant experience; the children have worked so well together and Class 4 have been excellent mentors to the younger children. The older children have helped Class 1 to use their phonics to sound out new or tricky words, have helped them to talk about the stories they have been reading and have been generally having fun and providing lots of support and encouragement - well done!! WOW . . . we have been so lucky this half term, as we have had so many guest speakers to visit us in Class 4. This week, we had some extra special guests . . . Jet and Ben! They came along with Claire ( Youth Inclusion Officer) and we undertook lots of fun activities and discussion all about staying safe and being a good member of society.
Look at our gallery of photos below . . . We have been learning about Cyber bullying and how to deal with it sensibly. Here are our key messages: LOG OFF the site where the cyber bullying is happening BLOCK messages or the person. DO NOT respond to them in any way! SAVE any evidence of the bullying and show a trusted adult. TALK to someone you trust about it. Log on to www.thinkuknow.co.uk to find out more and explore the 'Cyber Cafe'. Today we were lucky enough to have a guest speaker in our classroom! Graham came to speak to us about 'Wildlife Awareness'. He taught us how to look after the wildlife around us and how to report any concerns or incidents.
We found out lots of new facts about badgers, here are some of our favourites . . . . - The underground home of a badger is called a sett and setts can be huge underground chambers connected by a myriad of tunnels. These setts contain nurseries where female badgers can look after their young. - Badgers are clean and sociable animals. They regularly change their bedding material within their setts and, unlike foxes, do not leave food or dung in or near the sett. - A badger may live to be 10-15 years of age, but are sadly very often hurt or killed before they reach this age! We learned about how to help to protect badgers from cruel acts, such as 'badger baiting' and how to report any suspicious activity near a badger sett. Have you got any interesting information or facts you would like to share with us? |
