We found out lots of new facts about badgers, here are some of our favourites . . . .
- The underground home of a badger is called a sett and setts can be huge underground chambers connected by a myriad of tunnels. These setts contain nurseries where female badgers can look after their young.
- Badgers are clean and sociable animals. They regularly change their bedding material within their setts and, unlike foxes, do not leave food or dung in or near the sett.
- A badger may live to be 10-15 years of age, but are sadly very often hurt or killed before they reach this age!
We learned about how to help to protect badgers from cruel acts, such as 'badger baiting' and how to report any suspicious activity near a badger sett.
