It has been nice to see the beautiful stained glass windows and detailed architecture in Parliament. I even spotted a statue of Henry VIII today!
Hello everybody! We have had a quieter day today with more talks and Q&A sessions than tours but it has still been very interesting. I've heard about life as an MP and seen live debates in the House of Commons. We've also heard about lots of interesting resources that we can use in school. Our tour has taken us into both the House of Lords and House of Commons this morning. It was very interesting but we weren't allowed to take photos in these areas. We also went into Westminster Hall where The Queen, Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama have given speeches in the past. It's a lovely sunny morning in London for my first day at Parliament. We're going to be having a tour around Westminster today. Here's the schedule for today. Hello everybody! I am currently on the train on my way to London for the teachers' institute Parliament course. I'll update the blog with information and photos throughout the week. Here is a timetable of what I'm going to be doing each day. Miss Potts Now that we have completed our scrapbook, I need some comments from pupils in our class about the project to send to Go-Givers. I will give out Class Dojo points to the people who send the most thoughtful comments. Answer as many of these questions and reply as you can please... 1) What did you learn about our chosen issue (clean water) that you didn't know before? 2) How do you feel about the people who are affected by a lacks of clean water and sanitation? 3) Why do you think it is important for children to give to others? 4) If you think you can make the world a better place, what kind of things might you do when you grow up? This afternoon the whole school took part in our annual sports day. Lots of parents and other family members turned up to support us as we worked through a range of different activities before ending with the egg and spoon and sprint relay races. Congratulations to the Japan team and their captain Declan, who were our winners, followed by Colombia (Bethany's team) in 2nd place and the 3rd placed team which was Germany (Callum's team).
Today all of the children in KS2 took part in an intra school tennis competition. We had great fun playing tennis and some of us helped to score and referee the games. Today was our Year 5 cluster cricket competition at Crook Cricket Club. Everyone tried their best and had a great day. Out of the four matches we played, we won 2 matches (against Tow Law and Howden-le-Wear) and lost 2 (against Our Lady St Thomas and Wolsingham). Well done to everyone who took part for their fantastic effort and behaviour. Joanne was back in class today to tell us more about energy drinks and the dangers of alcohol. We learnt that alcohol can affect the whole body and completed a quiz.
Our coffee morning/ fayre to raise awareness of the water crisis and raise funds for WaterAid was a great success. We had lots of guests from the local community, including parents and other family members, Willington's mayor, local councillor Olwyn and our local MP, Pat Glass. The whole school joined us for our presentation and we even made some people cry with our songs about the water crisis. We raised around £320 at the fayre, which combined with the money we have made through our tuck shop, has made the total amount we've raised for WaterAid just under £500! Thank you to everyone who came to our coffee morning or made a donation and well done to all of our class for their hard work. More photos to follow! Today we have finished our final preparations for our coffee morning including getting the tombola prizes ready and making cakes. Thank you very much to Angela and Mrs Long for making and decorating the cakes with us. |
