We had a fantastic dance competition in the hall today. We began with some warm ups and then each class performed a whole class dance to show what they had been learning in PE lessons. We also had some individual, paired and small group dances during the afternoon. Our four judges found it very difficult to score the dances as everyone did a great performance but Class 4 were very pleased to be the winners of the whole class dance. We also had a winner, runner up and joint third place in the individual and group dances. You can see pictures of our winners below with their trophies. Well done to everyone who took part and spent so much time practising their dances. All of your hard work really paid off!

In today's tennis lesson, we spent time practising skills to help us to improve as tennis players. We worked on our hand/ eye coordination and returning the ball when it was thrown to us and then moved onto playing some mini games. Everyone tried very hard and we can already see good progress.
We have now started our striking and fielding unit of work, which includes rounders and cricket. There is also an after school club on Thursdays for our class and year 3/4. This will all help us to prepare for our cricket competitions in June. In our second PE lesson, we are developing our tennis skills. We will keep you updated with our progress.
For Miss Potts' final gymnastics club of this term, we put together all of the elements that we have practised to perform a sequence using the apparatus. Miss Potts has been amazed at how much progress we have made. Everyone performed very well and we are looking forward to improving even further in the new gymnastic club, with a coach on Mondays after half term.
Class 4 have been to a dance festival today (12th February 2015). We all enjoyed ourselves and other schools were there including: Hunwick, St. Cuthbert’s, Our Lady, Hartside and St. Stephen’s. We all performed our best, even though we were very nervous.
Before any primary school performed we watched some of the Parkside girls dance from year 9 and 10. After Parkside had danced other schools performed their dance, then we had to dance and the song we danced to was called Wide Awake by Katy Perry. The teacher running the event was very impressed with our choreography and how we had whole class, individual, paired and group parts. Courtney Most of Class 4 and some of Class 3 went to an athletics festival on Tuesday 3rd March. We did different activities such as: javelin, chest throw, long jump, triple jump, obstacle race, speed bounce and sprint relay. Unfortunately, we came 4th out of 5 teams, due to losing the sprint races. However, we were stronger in the field events and there were some fantastic performances by Kieran. L with the javelin, Callum. H with the triple jump and Ciaran. D with the speed jump.
By Hannah Check out our video slideshow with photos from the Sports Hall Athletics competition at Parkside. Some of the photos are blurry because we were moving so quickly! Full report to follow... This week we had our first after school table tennis club with a coach from Bishop Auckland Table Tennis club. Everyone had lots of fun and we can't wait to learn more about this exciting new sport. You can find out more information about Bishop Auckland Table Tennis club on their website at http://bishopaucklandttc.co.uk/ and we also have some leaflets in school with more information. Our PE lessons have continued to go well, with children working hard with their partners, as individuals and as part of the whole class. We have been working hard to develop our choreography skills and have thought of some creative ideas.
On Thursday, two teams of children from our class took part in the Y5/6 netball competition at Parkside. As we are a small school, we usually just enter one team, but as we performed so well in our netball PE lessons, Miss Potts decided to take most of the class to compete! We even had to play each other for our last match of the day and as both teams were such fantastic defenders, the game ended 0-0. As usual, we showed excellent sportsmanship and our behaviour was exemplary. Out of the ten teams that entered from our cluster, our 'A' team finished in 3rd place by winning 5 matches, drawing 2 games (including the game against our 'B' team) and narrowly losing 2 by one goal. Our 'B' team were very pleased to finish in 6th place, as for most of the team, it was their first ever competition against other schools. After each game, we were supposed to choose a player of the match, which was won several times by Declan, Jenson, Callum H and Brendan. However, in many of the games it was too difficult to choose as everyone did so well. Congratulations to everyone who took part! This week, we started our new unit of work in PE, which is dance. Miss Potts was very pleased with how well we worked together as teams to create an initial dance. Now we will work hard to improve our dances by the end of the half term. |
