Some of our class went to the tag rugby festival at Parkside on Friday. After working very hard at the festival and in the after school club, we were extremely proud to come 2nd place in our group ahead of Hunwick Primary School, Our Lady St Thomas and Wolsingham. This meant we had a space in the semi-final. Eventually we came 4th out of 10 schools. Well done to everyone who took part and who attended the after school club. It was one of the most popular clubs we have ever had! By Hannah

Dance club for children in years 1-6 started this week and Miss Potts was amazed to see 27 children turn up ready to dance! Everyone tried really hard and it was lovely to see some of the older children helping the younger children. We were all exhausted by the end, but we had great fun!
Tag rugby club is becoming more and more popular each week, with 18 children now attending from KS2. Hopefully we will be able to do well at the competition in October. This is our School Sports Organising Crew (SSOCrew) who have recently been elected to help to organise, promote and celebrate sports in school. We will be working as a team with assigned roles, including administrator, equipment organiser and festival leader, to promote the School Games values, plan and lead clubs and competitions and report about any sporting events.
Our notice board is outside the school hall and we will be regularly updating this with photographs and information about sporting activities. Please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions about after school clubs, festivals and competitions. Tag rugby club for boys and girls in KS2 started on Monday night and each week we will be working with a tag rugby coach. We are going to work very hard to develop our skills as we will be attending a festival at Parkside at the end of the half term. If you would like to attend, please see Miss Potts for a permission letter.
We are very pleased to announce that our school has achieved the Sainsbury's School Games Bronze mark for 2013/2014. We met all of the criteria for the bronze award, which included having a school games day to celebrate the year's sporting activity, participating in level 1 and level 2 sporting competitions, involving students in leading sporting activity and having children regularly attending after school clubs. Well done to everyone who has attended an after school club, taken part in a sports competition or has been a referee/ organiser as you have all helped us to achieve this award! Next year we are going to aim for the silver award so we will be setting up a school games organising committee, developing links with local sports clubs, ensuring each class has 2 hours of PE per week and attending even more festivals and competitions. You can find out more about the sports marks on the Sainsbury's School Games website at http://yourschoolgames.com/your_school/sainsburys-school-games-mark . Today I (Briony) went to a very exciting festival for the athletics district finals. I went there because I am the best shot putter Sunnybrow has ever seen and I won our cluster festival! I came second with 10.08m and the girl who won threw 10.12m. Unfortunately I didn't win, but I had fun and made new friends from all over County Durham. This amazing festival was in Shildon and I had so much fun!
As part of Sports Week, we arranged a KS2 School Games tennis festival for our class and Y3/4. Some of us even got to organise and be umpires for the Class 3 competition. We all had great fun and enjoyed having the chance to show off our brilliant tennis skills, as well as our leadership skills for the umpires. Our Class 4 winners were: Justin, Briony, Matthew and Chloe and the Class 3 winners were Kieran, Ciaran, Hannah, Lillie-Beth and Keira-Jo. Well done to everyone who took part! On Tuesday, the whole school had our Sports Day, as part of National Sport Week. Each team captain was given a different country from the World Cup to research and we explained to the rest of our teams all about our countries. We had a fantastic day and enjoyed lots of activities, including long jump, javelin, shot put and different types of races. Some of our younger brothers and sisters even took part in a toddlers' race at the end of the day! Congratulations to the Ghana team who were the winners and a special well done goes to Kirsty and Declan from our class who led this team very well.
We have just found out that we now have two champion shot throwers in school! As well as Briony winning the girls' shot put, Callum H has also been revealed as the winner of the boys' event. Briony has also been selected to be part of the district team for the county finals on Friday. Good luck Briony! Today 16 of us took part in the Parkside cluster athletics festival at Peases West athletics track. We put 100% effort into each event and are very proud of ourselves. In most events, we finished in 2nd or 3rd place, even with some Y3s and Y4s from our team competing against Y6s from other schools. Huge congratulations go to Briony who was the champion of the girl's shot put, with an outstanding throw of 13 metres! Well done to everyone who took part! As part of School Sport Week, which runs from the 23rd - 27th June, all children in key stage two will be taking part in a tennis competition on Thursday 26th June on the school yard. Please remember to bring your PE kit and hopefully we should have a great afternoon! Wish us luck! This week we managed to do cricket club outside as finally it wasn't raining! We had a great time and plenty of runs were scored. Fingers crossed we will be as lucky with the weather next week!
