Today 16 of us took part in the Parkside cluster athletics festival at Peases West athletics track. We put 100% effort into each event and are very proud of ourselves. In most events, we finished in 2nd or 3rd place, even with some Y3s and Y4s from our team competing against Y6s from other schools. Huge congratulations go to Briony who was the champion of the girl's shot put, with an outstanding throw of 13 metres! Well done to everyone who took part!

We have received a letter of congratulations and our cheque from Go-Givers for winning the scrapbook competition. How exciting! Today we received an exciting email from Ruth Le Breton from Go Givers who revealed that we have won the scrapbook competition for the Make a Difference Challenge! We will receive a £75 cheque as a reward so we are currently trying to decide what to spend it on. Dear all,
After much deliberation and discussion, we have finally agreed that…drum roll…. * The prize for BEST scrapbook goes to Sunnybrow Primary school for their campaign supporting Syrian Refugees * They will receive a cheque for £75 for the winning class to spend as they choose. We thought the quality of all the scrapbooks received was excellent with so much evidence of discussion, debate, creative writing, decision making, research, campaigning, fundraising and community involvement. If you submitted a scrapbook I’ll be sending a separate email with some more detailed feedback for the children. Best wishes, Ruth Ruth Le Breton Go Givers Outreach Manager, Northern Region Citizenship Foundation 50 Featherstone Street, London EC1Y 8RT Today we received a certificate and thank you letter from Shelterbox to thank us for raising money to support the charity. We can track our box on the Shelterbox website using the code - YSB0006003. We are pleased to report that we have received an email from Fiona Clayton, from the Royal Shakespeare Company, to congratulate us on our Shakespeare flash mob project. It was a really exciting project and we are looking forward to exploring other Shakespeare plays in the future. On behalf of RSC Education I want to say how thrilled and inspired we’ve been by Durham cluster’s Flash Mob project. This was an ambitious and unique idea, but due to the commitment and enthusiasm of the teachers involved you not only pulled it off but had some wonderful results. The impact of the work has clearly been profound on pupils, parents and teachers. You are introducing Shakespeare to your communities in ways that are dynamic, exciting and fun and I’m sure will live long in the memories of all those involved for a very long time.
Thank you Durham cluster and we look forward to hearing about your next venture! Fiona Clayton Programme Lead: Learning and Performance Network RSC Education Department After only a few weeks of training, our Year 4/5 tennis team took part in the cluster festival at Parkside and we were very pleased with the results. We won or drew over half of our matches and our behaviour was fabulous as always. Well done to everyone who took part.
After months of hard work, we have finally completed our 'Make a Difference' challenge! We decided that we wanted to raise awareness of the Syrian refugee crisis in our community and carry out fundraising to support refugees. We planned and presented an assembly to the rest of the school; raised money with a dressing up day; produced poems and posters and organised a Spring fair. In total, we raised around £350, which we decided to donate to Shelterbox who send emergency supplies to refugees. These photos are from the celebration event at Durham University, where some of our Y6 pupils presented our project to over 200 people. We were extremely nervous but we performed very well and everyone loved our presentation! We were thrilled to see the Northern Echo report on our fundraising for Syrian refugees at our Spring fair. Thanks again to all pupils, parents and other members of the local community who helped to make it a great success! |
