Here are some of our fantastic acrostic poems about Childline and an example of a completed crossword. What do you think of our poems?
We have completed some more Childline workshops about different types of abuse and how children can deal with abuse. Everyone worked very well in small groups to discuss issues and identify ways to solve problems.
Today Y6 went to the Durham and Darlington Primary Safety Carousel. We took part in a range of interesting workshops, which were all about keeping safe, including fire safety, dangers of electricity, cyber bullying, road safety, water safety and the dangers of gas. It was a really fun and interesting day and we have made an animation with our photos. On 11th November each year, people remember those who have died fighting in wars and conflicts. This year we are commemorating the centenary of World War I. The prompt this week is:
…Remember… You might like to write about how it felt to be left at home worrying; you may want to write about how it felt to go away from your loved ones and fight in a foreign land; you may like to write a poem about how you feel on Remembrance Day. As always you have 100 words. Please think carefully and seriously about your work. As I crawled along the freezing trenches I could hear shells slamming on the ground behind me. I knew the Germans had their sights on me because every shell got closer to me with every step I took. Then I found some soldiers and I looked behind me and I noticed the shells weren’t firing at me anymore and I had lost them. By the soldiers I saw a piece of paper shaking in the wind and as it shivered, they shivered along with it in the coldness of the trenches. Then I saw the shells had started firing again. I was trapped!
This week, we started our new unit of work in PE, which is dance. Miss Potts was very pleased with how well we worked together as teams to create an initial dance. Now we will work hard to improve our dances by the end of the half term. We are pleased to announce that Jenson and Jamie have been chosen as winners in Willington town council's pumpkin carving competition! Jenson was chosen in 2nd place behind a child from Parkside and Jamie's design was selected as the town mayor's scariest pumpkin. They will be presented with prizes in an assembly on Tuesday. Well done to both of you!
The prompt this week is:
… as it shivered, they… You need to think carefully about this prompt and write it in the right person and tense! As usual, remember to check your spelling and punctuation very carefully before you submit your response. I will be looking for interesting description and try to link your writing to WW1. Today we had a visit from Childline and they are coming back next week to do a workshop with us. What did you learn? |
