Today we worked in groups to make our own music using our trip to the Oriental museum for inspiration. It was lots of fun! Once upon a time there was a little girl that was blind, was playing out with her friends in the field. The day after that ,the little girl was just crossing the bridge but there was someone playing with the grit alt bin but she didn’t dare tell him to stop it because he looked older than her.By the time she got to the other side the boy was blind too.The day after that when she woke up.Suddenly the girl was able to see but then she thought of the boy that went blind yesterday. I was wondering through the darkness of the cave, lurking deeper into the heart of the cave, trying to open my eyes but somehow I could not see. I was extremely terrified since my eye sight had been lost but I still continued to follow forward of the dusty sand from the cave. I finally reached a door, it felt like solid gold that hadn't been touched in years! I fell through a hole through a wall. I fell on the ground but then suddenly I was able to see again. I saw a seal saying, ‘Here lies: King Tutankhamun’. We have all had a wonderful day at the Oriental Museum to learn more about life in ancient Egypt. As well as having lots of fun, we learned a lot more about our history topic. We investigated ancient artefacts, explored the galleries, mummified Declan (who pretended to be a pharaoh) and even saw two real mummies! Our behaviour was outstanding and we were very proud when the staff said that they wished every class was like us! As part of our art topic, we have created mummies out of clay and then wrapped them in modroc to look like that the bandages that ancient Egyptians would have been wrapped in. Next lesson we are going to start making the sarcophagus for the mummy to go inside. Do you like our languages display to celebrate the European Day of Languages? We were all given a different language to investigate and then we found out how to say hello in the language and where the language is spoken. Welcome to our very special prompt this week when we team up with Sight Savers which is an organisation helping people who have cataracts. You can read and comment on other children's entries on the 100 word challenge website - http://100wc.net and please send your entry as a comment on this post by Friday 10th October. Cataract
Cataract is a clouding of the eye’s lens, is the number one cause of blindness in the world. Most of us think of it as something that just affects older people, but in a lot of developing countries it’s a huge problem for children too, and if it’s not caught in time sight loss can be permanent. It’s not difficult to treat – surgery takes about 20 minutes and costs just £30 for an adult and £50 for a child (they need a general anaesthetic). But millions are needlessly living with sight loss; they might not know treatment is available, healthcare services sometimes are not available or people can’t afford to get to hospitals, let alone pay for an operation. A life without sight Blindness in a developing country can be devastating; you’re often isolated and excluded, unable to get an education or work to support your family so you’re completely reliant on those around you. It’s hardly surprising then that people often tell us it feels like a miracle when they get their sight back. The prompt this week is: …suddenly I was able to see again… Think about what that would mean . Use it as part of a story where it makes all the difference. This week we have been learning about newspaper reports in our literacy lessons and we will be writing our own newspaper reports over the next two weeks. Can you complete this activity from BBC Bitesize to test your knowledge of newspapers? |
