As part of Year 6's celebrations for their fantastic attitude and effort when completing their SATs, we have had a fun party this afternoon. The theme was Cinco de Mayo which is a Mexican celebration that takes place on 5th May. We were 10 days after the official date with our celebrations so we could complete SATs and then enjoy the party. Take a look at some of our photos in this Animoto video.
This week we have a photograph from the wonderful Jane Hewitt whose book ‘Learning through a lens’ is a fantastic resource for every classroom.
It looks like one of her little people has got themselves into a bit of a difficulty. You have 100 words to write about this picture. Make sure you use your imagination! As usual, take care with your grammar and punctuation and make sure that your writing makes sense before you submit it. Year 6 have started their SATs this morning with their first test of the week, which was the reading test. Everyone worked extremely hard and Miss Potts and Mrs Leddy were very impressed with our positive attitudes to the test. Hopefully everyone will earn the fantastic scores that they deserve, but we have to wait until July to find out our results!
This week has seen the General Election take place to decide who will be in charge of the government in our country. Yesterday, our school was closed so it could be used as a polling station for our area. Today we spent time looking at how the election system works in the UK and we reviewed the results of yesterday's voting. We found out that in our local constituency, Pat Glass (Labour) gained the majority of votes so continues to be our MP, but when we looked across the UK as a whole, the Conservative party gained the most seats. This means that David Cameron will continue to be our Prime Minister. What do you hope he will change in our country over the next five years? This week in history we were looking at three different Mayan lifestyles; warriors, slaves and nobles. Class 4 worked in small groups and used drama to act out everyday life for the Mayans. Today in RE class 4 were looking at Saint Oswald and re-enacted key aspects of his life including the battle of Heavenfield! For the past few weeks Year 6 have been working extremely hard with their SATs revision but we have still found some time in between for some fun. Here are some pictures of us during cricket practice and investigating cam mechanisms in DT. |
